Rathbone's History

The Rathbone Retirement Community has a rich history, dating more than a century, with a personality that’s equally impressive.

George W. Rathbone was a banker and financier who was heavily involved in the growth and prosperity of the Evansville community.  In 1884, his sister Caroline formed a corporation to create and administer the Rathbone Home, named in George’s honor.   The Rathbone Home was officially founded in 1905.

For more than 20 years, Caroline Rathbone worked to establish the Rathbone Home as a residence for prominent Evansville citizens.  Now, in the twenty-first century, The Rathbone Retirement Community continues to uphold the tradition of providing elegance and comfort along with the ease of community living.  True to the Rathbone’s spirit of communal prosperity, we work to offer that luxury in a friendly and affordable way.
