Rathbone's History

The Rathbone Retirement Community, located in Historic, Downtown Evansville is not just another building, it's a home... one with history and personality. In 1884, Caroline Rathbone formed a corporation to administer the Rathbone home, named after her brother, George W. Rathbone, a financier and banker who was deeply involved in the affairs of Evansville and committed to its growth and prosperity. The Rathbone Home was founded April 6th, 1905. From that point on, Caroline pressed for 20 years to make the Rathbone Home a reality. On that triumphant April day, the doors opened and Rathbone was soon home to a number of prominent citizens. To this day, the Rathbone Retirement Community carries with it the air of elegance, comfort and ease and has a long-standing commitment to the community providing our residents with modern convenience and traditional elegance... at the same time, remaining affordable.
